In the Asher Behaviour Lab the chicken is one of the main species that we work with. We are interested in finding automated ways of measuring chicken behaviour using:

  • vocalisations
  • video footage and image processing
  • thermal imaging

We also want to know what these automated measures really mean to the chicken. For example, what do particular calls chickens make mean? When a chicken hears another chicken calling does it influence the behaviour or welfare of that chicken.
We have projects with chickens used for both meat and egg production. For more information on our meat poultry research see our PoulSS page.
